Affirming Reality
CLINICIAN WITH A CONSCIENCE
Private Pay. Telehealth Only. Referral Based.
A small practice, on purpose
I've been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over fifteen years. These days most of my work is public — writing, speaking, building the Conservative Counselors directory — but I never stopped seeing clients, and I don't intend to.
I keep the caseload small deliberately. A short list means I can give each person real attention rather than running them through a fifty-minute conveyor belt. It also means I'm honest about capacity: if I don't have room, or if I'm not the right clinician for what you're carrying, I'll say so and point you somewhere better.
Most of the people I see arrive by referral — from colleagues who know how I work, from pastors, from someone who read something I wrote and recognized their own situation in it.
I MAINLY WORK WITH...
I am not the right fit for:
-
Anyone in active crisis or requiring a higher level of care than outpatient telehealth can safely provide
-
Court-ordered treatment / custody evaluations / forensic work
-
Young children or adolescents
-
Couples/marriage counseling
-
Family counseling
-
Anyone looking for a therapist who will affirm whatever they bring in without question
If you're not a fit for my practice, that isn't a dead end. My directory at conservativecounselors.com exists precisely so people can find a values-aligned clinician without gambling on it.

Where I Stand
I'm a Christian, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise on my own website. My faith shapes how I understand people — what a person is for, why suffering isn't meaningless, why character matters.
That doesn't mean every session is a Bible study. Most of my clinical work looks like clinical work. But you should know what you're walking into, and you should know that I won't quietly work against what you believe — which is more than most people can count on right now.
I'm also a conservative. In the context of therapy what this means is that I conserve reality, normalcy, God's design and the nuclear family. This doesn't mean I won't work with someone navigating gender confusion, or someone who's an atheist. But knowing that my value system comes from a conservative perspective does, at times, provide peace for people who need to know their therapist won't encourage behaviors that will stray from shared values.
I also don't believe that everything is a pathology. Grief is not diagnosable depression. A demanding season is not burnout. Conflict in a marriage is not evidence that the marriage is over. The reflex to pathologize ordinary human difficulty has done real damage — it teaches people that struggle is malfunction and that the answer is always a label. I assess carefully and I take genuine clinical conditions seriously. I also won't hand you a diagnosis you don't need, because a label you don't need becomes a ceiling you didn't have before.

I start with what's true, not with what's comfortable.
Feelings are information. They are not verdicts. Part of my job is helping you tell the difference between what you feel and what is actually happening.
I'm direct. You will not get a nodding mirror. If I think you're avoiding something, I'll name it. If I think the story you're telling about your marriage, your parents, your friendships, or your career leaves out your own contribution, I'll ask about the missing part. This is respect. Treating you as fragile is its own kind of insult, and most people who find their way to me have been handled gently for years without much changing.
You cannot build a coherent life on top of contradictory commitments. A great deal of what gets diagnosed as anxiety or depression is really the friction of living against your own convictions — or of never having articulated them clearly enough to live by them at all. I'll ask what you actually believe, what you owe, and to whom. Most therapy avoids these questions on the theory that it's neutral. There is no neutral. Every therapist brings a worldview into the room; I simply tell you mine up front.
Good therapy ends. Therefore, I'm not building a dependency. From early on we'll be clear about what you came in for and what it would look like to be done, so neither of us mistakes comfort for progress.
